Hebrews 6:4-7

  • Once been enlightened (photidzo)
    • Language linked with Christian baptism in the early church.
    • “Remember those earlier days after you had received the light … do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God you will receive what he has promised … we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.”   (Heb 10:32-39)

  • Tasted the heavenly gift (geuomai)
    • To partake fully, to experience completely. This does not imply a less-than-complete experience (i.e., nibble).
    • “But we see Jesus … who suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.” (Heb 2:9)
    • “Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.’” (Jn 4:10)
